Currencies and exchange rates
How Bordity converts between currencies: daily reference rates, the rate of each day for history, and what happens when a rate is missing.
Daily reference rates
Bordity updates exchange rates once a day from established rate providers. Around 170 currencies are covered, plus Bitcoin and Ether.
Each day keeps its own rate
Your net worth today uses today’s rate. A balance from last March is converted with the rate of last March. That way a change in the exchange rate shows up as a change, instead of rewriting your past.
Reference rates are estimates
Banks and money transfer services apply their own rates and fees. For money you actually moved, record a transfer with both amounts and Bordity keeps the rate you really got.
When a rate is missing
If a currency has no rate for a date, Bordity uses the latest earlier rate and marks the value so you know it is approximate.
